Former AAMI Board of Directors president and chair, Cesar Caceres, passed away on Feb. 9, 2020. Caceres was a cardiologist and was known as the “father of clinical engineering”. His work integrating healthcare and computers largely improved patient care. As one of AAMI’s first members, Caceres along with his colleagues created the first computer electrocardiographic interpretive system in the US. Caceres founded the ITHC (Institute for Technology in Health Care) in 1983, and served as its executive director.
